Personal Q&As
Why did you choose this profession?
As a child I used to accompany family members to the paediatric eye clinic and this gave me an appreciation for the impact that vision problems have on a child’s daily life and development.
What is your favourite operation (or procedure or service) and why?
Cataracts and restoring single vision, as it makes such a huge difference in the patient’s quality of life.
Can you name a person / teacher / mentor along the way that taught you something important about your given field?
My supervisor of training, Dr Leanne Cheung, taught me not to limit myself because of my own perception of my abilities. She always believed in the power of women in surgical careers and has been a great inspiration for me to reach for my ambitions.
Do you have a memorable patient story / work experience or moment you can share?
When I was a junior doctor in the Canterbury Hospital emergency department, I had the privilege of treating an entire family of First Nations Australians as they became comfortable with my bedside manner and approach to patient care.
What are some hobbies and interests outside of work that you enjoy?
Travelling around Australia and the world, and running after my 2.5 year old toddler.
